Spiral Memory is a four-channel video installation in which the spectators are immersed in a spatial-audio-visual experience of a circular narrative structure. The videos are synchronized to travel from one screen to the next. Different shots of the same event were edited to give the impression of a loop that, in reality only happens after 6:30 min.
To be back to that point that is never exactly the same but similar to another seen before. Images and sound shift to give a spatial representation of a state of mind, of the spiral of eternal return.
What you see in the video is a 3D render of the installation of the four 9-feet concave screens in the space, to see how the videos travel throughout the screens for the length of the loop.
The diagram below it represents how the edit was done, taking into consideration the position of the viewer and the screens to sometimes travel around the space or mirror their content across it. In the diagram, each number represents a different film sequence.
Spiral Memory was included in the 10th National Biennial of Photography in Mexico, and is part of the INBA’s (National Institute of Fine Arts, Mexico) Museo Carrillo Gil collection.
